Agents, robots, and us: Skill partnerships in the age of AI
Abstract
This report analyzes how artificial intelligence is reshaping the US workforce, shifting the focus from job loss to "skill partnerships" between humans and machines. It finds that current technology could automate 57% of work hours, yet most jobs will evolve rather than disappear. By introducing a "Skill Change Index," the authors demonstrate that while digital and processing skills face high disruption, social and emotional skills remain durable. The report estimates that human-AI collaboration could unlock $2.9 trillion in economic value by 2030, provided organizations redesign entire workflows rather than just automating isolated tasks. It highlights a critical rise in demand for "AI fluency" and offers a framework for leaders to navigate this workforce transformation.
