Authors: Alex Singla, Alexander Sukharevsky, Lareina Yee, Michael Chui, Bryce Hall

Abstract

This landmark global survey outlines how organizations are increasingly adopting generative AI to reshape workflows, governance, and workforce roles. Larger companies with dedicated CEO oversight of AI governance report better bottom-line returns. Firms are navigating complex risk landscapes, including cybersecurity and accuracy concerns, while building hybrid AI teams spanning centralized centers of excellence and business units. The workforce is simultaneously evolving, with growing AI-related hiring and reskilling programs, though filling AI data scientist roles remains challenging. AI is expanding across business functions such as marketing, IT, and operations, with generative AI showing significant uptake particularly in text generation, code creation, and image synthesis. Despite rapid technology deployment, comprehensive enterprise-wide financial benefits from generative AI are still emergent, underscoring the importance of adoption playbooks and measured scaling strategies. The survey’s breadth across industries, regions, and firm sizes offers actionable insights for executives aiming to maximize AI’s strategic impact in 2025 and beyond, painting a nuanced picture of AI’s operational integration and transformative potential across the global economy.
